What is Dengue?
Dengue is a mosquito-borne disease that is transmitted by the bite of the Aedes mosquito, which breeds in stagnant water. It is often self-limiting and mild, but sometimes it complicates and leads to fatal bleeding.
Dengue fever usually occurs after an incubation period of 4-10 days after the bite of the infected mosquito.
Key facts:
Dengue is a mosquito-borne viral infection.
The infection causes flu-like illness, and occasionally develops into a potentially lethal complication called severe dengue.
The global incidence of dengue has grown dramatically in recent decades.
About half of the world’s population is now at risk.
Philippines ranks 4th in ASEAN-wide dengue incidence
There is no specific treatment for dengue/ severe dengue, but early detection and access to proper medical care lowers fatality rates below 1%.
REMEMBER: Preventing dengue can be easier achieved by doing your part in keeping the environment clean.
