Today is the Feast Day of St. Agapius

GOD’S WORD FOR TODAY:

“Zacchaeus received Jesus joyfully”                                                                                       Luke 19:1-10

REFLECTION:

What would you do if Jesus knocked on your door and said, “I must stay at your home today”?

PRAYER:

“Lord Jesus, come and stay with me. Fill my life with your peace, my home with your presence, and my heart with your praise. Help me to show kindness, mercy, and goodness to all, even to those who cause me ill-will or harm.”

LASALLIAN PEACE WEEK 2018 & PHILIPPINE LASALLIAN HUMAN RIGHTS & DEMOCRACY WEEK 2018

This year’s theme is “Ignite our Hearts of Peace” which is the theme of the International Lasallian Days for Peace 2018. It invites us to reflect on the experience of the two disciples on the road to Emmaus.

As Lasallians, we are part of this fast changing world. Our call this year is to recognize that burning peace in our hearts, and to “set out at once” despite the dangers, in order to ignite our hearts of peace. We are invited to walk, not with downcast eyes, but run, laughing and hugging each other as we go out to light the world with peace.

Aligned with the goal of providing relevant education to our students and in order to increase their awareness and appreciation of human rights, democracy and martial law, the Lasallian Justice and Peace Commission (LJPC) of De La Salle Philippines through the Social Action Offices, identified 17 – 21 September 2018 as the Philippine Lasallian

Human Rights and Democracy Week with the theme “Defending Democracy, Upholding Human Rights.” However, since the school has already scheduled the celebration of the Environment Week on the specified dates, SJSLS will celebrate the Philippine Lasallian Human Rights & Democracy Week 2018 during the celebration of the Lasallian Peace Week on November 19-23, 2018

November 22, 2018 (Thurs):

Federalism & Charter Change Forum for Faculty & Staff (3:30 – 4:30 pm) (tentative)

Conduct of learning session on Federalism. Either Mr. Neri Colmenares or a faculty from the Political Science Department of the University of St. La Salle will be invited as resource speaker.

November 23, 2018 (Fri):

Peace Beat (for Jesus) (3:30 to 5:00pm) (tentative)

The Center for Lasallian Ministries of USLS will be invited to minister to our students through music of peace, praise & worship to Jesus, our Prince of Peace.

Entire Week:

Democracy Exhibit

Partnering with Center for Youth Advocacy Network (CYAN), an exhibit will be set up in the OJH Civic Center Lobby. The materials for exhibit were emailed by LJPC and will be printed on tarpaulins. These will serve as the school’s resource for martial law discussions in the future.

Human Rights Talk

Social Science teachers across all grade levels will spend one (1) period anytime during the week to facilitate class discussion on human rights where students will appreciate more the importance of these rights.

Moments of Peace

The playing of music during lunch break will be suspended in order to set the mood for personal prayers.

The Lasallian Ministries & Vocation Office (LAMIVO) is identifying a dedicated sacred space where the community can spend a moment of silence, offer prayers, write their thoughts and reflections. In the meantime, the school’s chapel will serve this purpose.

Prayer for Life

Intentions of the EJK victims and of other violence will be included in the masses and institutional prayers in the campus. The Prayer for Life will be said at the beginning or end of the mass.

November is also World Diabetes Awareness Month

What is Diabetes?

Diabetes is a chronic disease that occurs either when the pancreas does not produce enough insulin or when the body cannot effectively use the insulin it produces. Insulin is a hormone that regulates blood sugar. Hyperglycemia, or raised blood sugar, is a common effect of uncontrolled diabetes and over time leads to serious damage to many of the body’s systems, especially the nerves and blood vessels.
